Hiking with Mushimp

Do you enjoy going on trips or taking walks in beautiful natural surroundings? The Blanský Forest – Netolicko region offers many interesting places that you can visit on foot. Next to historical monuments (the Kratochvíle chateaux near Netolice, the monastery in Zlatá Koruna, or Archeopark in Netolice) there are many other natural sights worth visiting. Here come ideas for some trips we have prepared for you:

1, To the top of the highest peak – Kleť, the queen of South Bohemian mountains

The mountain Kleť (1084 a.s.l.) and its unique observation tower offer all visitors splendid views far and wide (and to the depths of the universe, too!), interesting natural sights and technical monuments.

If you plan a one-day trip to Kleť, we recommend you take a train and get off in Holubov. From there set out on a green marked tourist trail (through Krásetín) to the lower terminal of the chair-lift. There is also a parking lot at this place where you can leave your car. The chair-lift will then take you to the top of the mountain Kleť. Avid sportsmen can continue on the green trail and climb to the top on foot instead. During the hike you can also see the instructional trail leading to the top, and your appetite will then be ready for a good lunch on the summit.

On the top of Kleť there is the oldest stone observation tower in Bohemia. When the air is clear and cold, you might see as far as the mountain peaks of the Alps. If you think such views are not enough for you, you can visit the local observatory (see further). But a look at the sundial then reminds you that time is running fast here, so you set out on the way back on the yellow marked tourist trail. After 1 kilometer the asphalt path ends and a serpentine trail will then lead you all the way to the trails crossroads called „U tunelu.“ From there continue on a green marked trail back to the parking lot and the lower terminal of the chair-lift.

Lenght: 12 Km 12 km

Refreshments on the way
We recommend the pub in Holubov, Terezie’s lodge on the top of Kleť or the pub in Zlatá Koruna.

Tips For the way back you can use the red marked tourist trail to Zlatá Koruna (10 km), the yellow marked tourist trail to Plešovice (10 km) or choose one of the marked tourist trails leading to Český Krumlov (12 km). All the trails will always lead you to a railway station.

Places of interest - Kleť Observatory Every year the observatory prepares guided tours for visitors and interesting programmes (lectures, exhibitions).

Opening hours for visitors: March – June: Saturdays and Sundays July – August: daily except Monday It is recommended to confirm the opening hours for the off-season months. Up-to-date information is available on the following website:

2. To the top of the mountain Kluk – unique views on the Křemže dell

If Kleť is called the queen of South Bohemian peaks, then Kluk (747 a.s.l.) would be the prince of all hills in the Blanský Forest – Netolicko region. The guardian spirit of the region, who appears in form of a small boy (“kluk” in Czech) from time to time, is said to dwell on the mountaintop.

The hike begins on the train stop of Vrábče, where you can first have a look on the whole route on a detailed information panel next to the train stop. From Vrábče, set out on a yellow marked tourist trail, and then follow the trail winding through the village and later continuing as a path through fields. The massif of Kluk, which you intend to scale, is now towering in front of you. The yellow trail then continues in the direction of the village of Slavče, however, turn immediately after it changes into an asphalt road and instead climb up the slope with a ski-lift. Then continue upwards till you reach a small quaint chapel. From there you can enjoy a wonderful view on the village of Vrábče and on cottages scattered in the valley. From the chapel turn right on a forest path, which leads just behind the chapel. After walking about 1 km you reach a trails crossroad and there take a green marked trail, on which you then climb all the way to Sedlo pod Klukem.

Tourist marking together with a red marked trail will guide you to the peak. From the top of Kluk there are good views on the mountain Kleť, Křemže and the entire Křemže dell.

Next continue on a red marked trail through Kozí kámen and Haberský vrch to the trails crossroad called “U Bohuškovické myslivny.” Here take the blue marked trail and continue to the crossroads called “U Sv. Víta.” Those interested in a ruin of a Gothicized church from the 17th century can make a 400 m walk to see the church. From then walk on a blue marked trail leading along the edge of the forest all the way to the crossroads “U Habří“ where the blue trail meets a yellow marked trail. Take the yellow trail here and walk to Slavče, or back to Vrábče to get on a train.

Length: 15 km

Tips: Drivers can leave the car in the village of Slavče and thus make the whole route 4 Km shorter. From Slavče there is a green marked trail leading directly to the top of Kluk.

Refreshments on the way:
Vrábče – a pub near the train stop
